Selecting of air handling unit

Updated: Dec 29, 2024

Sizing a ventilation unit is not a simple task due to the multitude of air parameters, but its selection largely determines the correctness and energy efficiency of the entire installation.

The basis for dimensioning the unit is always a properly executed heat gain, humidity, pollutant, human occupancy, etc. balance. Without this, proper selection of the unit is not possible. The principle is simple - distorted input data will result in distorted output data. Therefore, every designer should really focus on the balances. The selection of the unit is usually consulted with a technical advisor from the manufacturer to translate the calculated virtual parameters into a specific unit that will meet the specified requirements in reality. While selecting a unit solely for the purpose of providing hygienic air does not cause many problems, the implementation of a complete air conditioning system is already a certain challenge. The unit can perform all possible air transformations, i.e. heating, cooling, dehumidifying, humidifying, and additionally regulate the pressure in a given room. Therefore, let us remember that no technical advisor will select a good unit if the balances are incorrect from the outset.
